Why Palestine

 Because this is hardly a situation where

one can cowardly straddle the fence.

Maladjustment to occupation is the

only stance that makes any sense.

Because the issue is so straightforward,

why I consider it a litmus test.

Do you stand with occupied people?

Or with fascist colonizers from the West?

Because when decades of subjugation

trigger such righteous militant action,

We pay our utmost respect and appreciation

to all of the Resistance factions.

And yes, that includes Hamas,

and no, we do not condemn them.

We condemn the accomplices to genocide

who keep the thousand pound bombs supplied.

Because the worst crime ever committed

against our species is still ongoing,

and for over a century, the Palestinians

have been on the frontlines courageously showing

us how to respond to European colonialism and

the most egregious forms of white supremacy.

On October 7th, how to surprise and humiliate

the once-thought mighty Zionist military.

Because my parents were afforded a right

that remains denied to Palestinians,

enabling myself to be born on occupied land,

with no Right of Return for the indigenous

people of Palestine who are teaching us all

how to be more human,

how to resist, and laugh and love

even as their infrastructure lay in ruins.

Because the ruling class has clearly decided

to uphold Zionism at all costs,

up to and including the very Empire itself

which is due to suffer catastrophic loss

not seen in almost fifty years

much respect and peace to Vietnam

from Al Aqsa Flood to a Free Palestine

from Tet to the liberation of Saigon.

Because when Palestine is free

what does that mean for the region?

Indigenous working class people shall benefit,

though what about them autocratic heathens?

Because the Global South is paying close attention to

Palestine teach their colonizers a critical lesson.

And when one settler-colony goes down in flames,

well then they all get called into question.

Which brings us right back to imperialism

and how Palestinians deserve our thanks,

For effectively slicing at the ribs of Empire

as orphans fill the majority of the ranks

of those taking up arms so Palestine may be Free.

Because as it’s student, I believe it paramount

To be on the right side of history.

And how fortunate are we bearing witness to

Palestinians literally liberating themselves,

and how necessary we stand in solidarity,

peace and Long Live Aaron Bushnell.
